Four Short Pieces

The Four Short Piano Pieces now sound to me even more blues and Jazz-oriented than when I wrote them (the first three in 1964, the last added in '68). It probably doesn't matter to know that the first three are binary ( second entrances on the dominant! and the last ABA) but my friend Evan seems to worry about the shock that might occur if one is not warned in advance.

The premiere was played by Watson Morrison; since then by Julie Steinberg, John MacDonald, Michael Friedmann, among others, and now Lisa Moore. It makes me reflect on how these great players have affected me and helped to make my music express ever so much more than I thought possible.
